We'd stared into the face of Death, and Death blinked first. You'd think that would make us feel brave and invincible. It didn't.

About This Quote

In this quote from the movie, "A Christmas Carol," Ebenezer Scrooge is describing a particularly terrifying experience he had while he was a young man. The experience, in which Scrooge saw a ghostly apparition of a man dying on a bed, left him terrified and shaking. He realized that the terror he felt was real and that it was a direct result of his own actions. This realization caused him to change his life.

He determined to turn his life around and to become a better person. He would not allow fear or death to hold him back from making the world a better place. In this sense, "Fear has no dominion over me" is actually quite dangerous.

It's one thing to be afraid of dying. It's another to let it rob you of your ability to live with passion and intensity.
